The advantage of a used car

by admin on August 25, 2010

New cars depreciate rapidly in their first years. After 3 years, only about 60-70% of the initial value is left, and a new car becomes very quickly a used car. From the buyer’s point of view, it means that used cars will retain their value for longer as the initial plunge in worth has been absorbed by the original owners.
A lower price tag is an obvious reason for choosing used cars over new ones, and the retention of value is a great bonus. However, economical car deals are not the only reason. To a great surprise, practicality or even thirst for luxury might act as factors in the choice.
The association between luxury and second hand cars might not be too apparent, but choosing a used car can make all the extra features of our dreams affordable. The lucky buyer could end up with a customised car for no extra cost. And, rather than having to wait for weeks for a new car to be delivered, it becomes possible to drive off with the perfect car at that moment.
Despite all the benefits, buying a used car does have an element of risk to it. It lowers with careful research and inspection, but finding out whether a car is accident-free, whether its meter reads the right mileage, or whether it has been maintained properly can be tough.
Buying from a franchised used car dealer will lower the risk involved. Dealers check their cars thoroughly; they cater a full service history and guarantee a correct mileage. Prices might be slightly higher than on the private market, but your rights as a consumer will be legally protected.
In the used car markets, the best deal is not necessarily the cheapest one. There is usually a reason for a bargain, so buying wisely will be more rewarding. Remember to always keep the following tips in mind:
1. Do your research. Know what you are after when you go to a dealership.
2. Check the car. Don’t only believe what you’re being told, but bring the car for inspection to a mechanic you trust. Never sign a contract until car has been inspected by someone trustworthy.
3. Read the papers you sign very thoroughly before you sign.

Personalised number plates

by admin on August 25, 2010

A driver’s car is one of his most valued possessions. Whether your drive new or used cars, you tend to love the car that you drive as though it were a member of your own family, and in some cases you love your car more than your family!!
Drivers love their cars and tend to spend huge amounts of money on them whenever they can. That could be in the form of valeting, servicing, accessorising, performance enhancing or sometimes, when the worst happens, repair work.
One of the most popular forms of expenses is personalised number plates. Personalised number plates used to be very expensive and were the exclusive domain of rock stars and royalty, but now the prices have come down, personalised number plates can be bought by anyone, and sported by any types of cars. You no longer see personalised number plates on just swish cars; you can now see personalised number plates on Fords and Nissans.
Psychological studies suggest that personalised number plates, rear window stickers and furry dice adorning cars indicate an aggressive driver who may be inclined to road rage. The more accessories drivers have on their cars, as well as the level of attachment to the vehicle are significant signs of aggressive driving.
Several UK based car clubs have disputed the claims by this study conducted by the Colorado State University, where mothers adorning “baby on board” signs say they simply do so to warn other drivers to practice caution and avoid silly accidents. This may indicate that the type of personalisation may signify different personality types.

What to pack when you are going to festival?
The essentials would be a tent, a sleeping bag and your ticket at the least. Then there are many things you should think of packing. An air bed or some sort of a mattress will make your camping slightly more comfortable and might allow you to get more sleep than if you didn’t have anything! Then if you are thinking of comfort bring a pillow or two. Obviously pack sensibly and takes at least 2 changes of clothes. If you are going to a festival in the UK, wellies and something rainproof would be highly recommended.
Then you can take or leave behind a lot of things (such as a wheelbarrow, camping stoves, kettles, hot water bottles, chairs, rugs and there are many other items you could be tempted to take with you!), but don’t forget to leave a bit of space in your Vauxhall Corsa for your friends!

The Vauxhall Astra is the perfect first car to get as a young professional. It has a great size, not too small if you decide to take big decisions like marriage or even bigger decisions like babies. But for now don’t stress yourself with these decisions. This car is a great all rounder. It combines style and power if you go for the sports hatch version. Indeed it has a great sporting profile but it also offers a great interior. It doesn’t just look good, but is functional and feels good to touch too! It is all very clear and easy to use.

Vauxhall have not only improved on the design of this car but they have also not neglected safety features. It has one of the market’s strongest safety structures with dual powered front airbags to avoid too rapid inflation which can cause injuries. These are just some examples of the stuff this car is packed with.
If you are a city dweller then the hatch back model of this car is probably better suited to you than the estate. Then again if you do have the space to keep it, the estate model is another great car. It offers the same comfort as the hatchback version, and even some little extras, such as the full length sunroof.

To sum it up, the Vauxhall Astra is a great all rounder and the perfect car for young professionals. Now the only decision left to take is which model are you going to go for?

Games to play in the car

by admin on August 18, 2010

There are many different games to play in your Vauxhall Meriva on long journeys to keep the children occupied. Here is a list of car journey games, with the basic rules. So enjoy your journey and make the most of these games!

- “I spy”: The most famous of car journey games, it is a guessing game which can help in learning the alphabet and how to spell. How it works: One person chooses an object (which they keep to themselves) and say “I spy with my little eye something beginning with” the first letter of the object chosen. The first person to guess the correct word wins and gets to choose the next object.

- The Brain game: This is an easy game to play in the car. Choose an item that the children would know about. Tell it to one child, who has to describe what it is usually used for and the others have to guess what it is. They then have to find an unusual use that the item can be used for. All the children can participate and come up with ideas on how the item can be used in an unusual way. It’s a great way to make time pass and use your imagination.

- Fingers out: This is an easy game where you need a minimum of two players. The aim of the game is to guess how many fingers are going to be extended before they actually are. So you all start with closed fists. Then each person playing, in turn, says a number (up to 25 if you have 5 people playing, up to 20 if you have 4 etc.). If you guess right then you are out of the game, which continues until there is only one person left – who has lost.

- “I packed my suitcase”: Another easy game to play, which tests your memory. Each person, in turn, will say “I packed my suitcase, and in it I put” and this is where you add the item. Each person has to say all the items that have been said and add a new one. The one who forgets an item loses and the game starts again.

- “I went on holiday”: Similar to the previous game, this one calls upon your geography knowledge and alphabetical order. It’s perfect for children who are learning about countries and capital cities. As for the previous game, the first person starts and says “I went on holiday to America”, the following person has to say the same and add a destination starting with the letter “b” and so on.

Formula One Countdown

racing Formula One Countdown

For the 61st Formula One season, driver champion Jenson Button joined McLaren, with Brawn GP acquired by Mercedes-Benz and becoming Mercedes GP. Michael Schumacher has come out of retirement after three years away, and retains his spot is one of the most successful drivers. March 14 saw the first race in Bahrain.

Although there was to be a budget cap as a nod to the current economic difficulties, teams objected because they thought it would become a two-tier championship, so five teams originally withdrew (Renault, BMW Sauber, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, and Toro Rosso, with BMW Sauber withdrawing at the end of the 2009 season because of economic factors.

Formula One Teams Association members decided to withdraw unless budget cap rules were relaxed; subsequently, the World Motor Sport Council met on 24 June, and at Formula One Teams Association remained in Formula One.

While future regulations were being negotiated during a meeting on 8th July between the Formula One Teams Association and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), teams walked out because they had not been entered for the 2010 season and could not be part of regulatory discussions because of this. The response was to report that a breakaway series was being planned. This dispute ultimately ended with the construction of a new Concorde Agreement directly with the commercial rights holders, CVC. FAA signed this 11 August, and stands until it expires in 2012.

The test schedule began in December 2009, with the ‘Young Drivers’; those with fewer than three Formula One race starts under their belts, held first. Red Bull Racing Champion was Daniel Ricciardo, and the teams were allowed a 9300-mile or 15,000 km maximum over 15 days in February 2010.

Race highlights Bahrain hosted the start of the season, and for not a lot so led Fernando Alonso led Felipe Massa in what many consider to be a disappointing race. Both Michael Schumacher and defending champ Jenson Button perform disappointingly, finishing sixth and seventh respectively. Lotus proved best and classified with both cars at the end of the race. The Australian Grand Prix was won by Button, and Renault’s Robert Kubica finished second. Red Bull had its first win in Malaysia, with Vettel and Webber finishing first and second respectively.

With the Chinese Grand Prix, McLaren had its first and second finish since the Italian Grand Prix in 2007. Button scored his second victory of the season, and Renault’s new arrival Vitaly Petrov earned Russia’s first Formula One championship points. Virgin had ongoing problems with reliability. The Spanish Grand Prix again saw Red Bull in first place, with Mark Webber winning, and Alonso taking second.

Monaco Grand Prix saw Button dropping out because of an overheated engine, with pole sitter Mark Webber leading the race until he was told to drop back somewhat. New team cars retired, all six of them, for various reasons. Schumacher took sixth place, but his overtaking maneuver, performed when Fernando Alonso went ‘wide’ was decided to be against article 40.13 of regulations; this cost him 20 seconds of race time, and he dropped from sixth to 12th place. Currently, BMW and Toyota have withdrawn, with four engine types powering everything, the fewest since 1980.

Tips when buying a new car

by admin on August 10, 2010

Buying a new car is something one cannot take lightly. For many people, buying the car is probably one of the largest investments they can make only second to a house. There is of course the excitement and anticipation of sitting in the driver’s seat of their own new car and the feeling of satisfaction in light of the sweat it took to buy it.

But if you plan to buy a new car, there are a number of important things you need to take into consideration if you are to get the best deal. First, do some research on the type of car you want to buy, the current market price of the car and the different car dealerships from which you can make your purchase.

Unlike times past when you had to go from one dealership to the next or make several phone calls, you can now perform your research online. The internet is rich source of information and will save you both time and money.

The amount of time you invest in your research will prove vital in helping you to make a better informed decision as you buy a new car. Being equipped with knowledge will also place you in a better position to haggle on the price when you visit the car dealer.

Assess you current financial circumstances and use that to set a realistic budget of how much you are willing to spend on a new car. Stick to that price when you visit a dealer even when you see a model that you really like but that is beyond your allocated budget. Remember that buying the car is just the beginning of your car related expenses – you must provide cash to enable you maintain the vehicle.

If you are going to trade in your current car for a new car, get a feel of the going market price for your current car so you can calculate how much you may be required to add. However, you will probably get a better deal by selling your current car privately than by trading it in for a new one. The car dealer is looking to maximize his or her profit – so if the price is not right, you would rather walk away and look for a better deal.

Timing is important when you buy a new car as you can get great deals by simply buying at the right time. For instance, you might get a great deal if you buy a new car at the end of the month since this is the time when sales representatives are throwing in everything in order to meet their monthly sales targets.

You can get a great deal too if you buy a new car around the time a new model has been released into the market and dealers are trying to do away with the old stock. Always test drive the car just to be certain that you are comfortable with its handling. Watch out for any unusual sounds and movements.

When you buy a new car, you want to be certain that the car not only fits your purse but also scores highly on quality and reliability. Vauxhall is one such company that has the types of cars that will likely meet these core requirements.

Which cars are best for long journeys?

by admin on August 9, 2010

If you’ve got a long journey coming up, you want a car that’s going to be comfortable for long ride, yet durable and fuel-efficient as well. Both used cars and new cars can provide these features for you, although used cars in particular are going to need to be well maintained to do so.

Fuel efficiency: basic tips

Almost every car can be made more fuel-efficient simply by following a few simple road rules. Make sure your car as well maintained so that you get the best fuel economy possible. In addition, this is going to help make sure you stay safe and won’t have breakdowns during your trip. Check and make sure your fuel filter, spark plugs, and air filter are properly operating, and get them cleaned or replaced if necessary. This alone can increase your mileage by about 10%. Replacing your oxygen sensor as necessary could give you a fuel efficiency increase of about 40%. In addition, make sure you follow manufacturers’ instructions as to the type of fuel and oil you use.

Tyres, too, should be properly inflated; check your owner’s manual to determine the proper pressure. Properly inflated tyres can give you as much as 3% fuel efficiency improvement.

Minimize your load

Especially if you’re going to be travelling long distances, it’s likely that you’ll carry a lot of gear with you. However, over packing your car can make your car much heavier, with every 100 pounds robbing you of as much as 2% in fuel economy. It’s also simply harder on your car and your tyres, so go light whenever possible.

It’s an unfortunate fact that most affordable car models skimp on car seat construction, which make them relatively uncomfortable rides. You can, however, get used cars in more expensive (but still reasonable) models like Saab or Volvo. Well maintained, these used cars can be just as affordable as their budget counterparts in new cars, but have a much more comfortable ride and sit. New cars in of these brands will of course be a little bit more expensive, but worth your money.

For another comfort option, you can order specialized car seats from a manufacturer called Recaro and then install them in your current car.

The best car models for long journeys

Different models of cars will provide affordability, durability, comfort and fuel efficiency; let’s take a look at two beyond the Saab or Volvo.

The Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is a vehicle that fulfils both comfort and style specifications, and it’s affordable. It comes in two-wheel drive model although it looks like a four-wheel drive; if you buy this from the used cars listings, you can save significantly over new retail price. It’s got plenty of legroom and headroom, has a height adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat, a nice sized boot, and extra comfort features included as part of the standard package, such as electric windows, air conditioning, and alloy wheels, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. This is a good, sturdy and comfortable car for the price and very efficient on mileage, getting about 42 miles per gallon. Prices start at about £14,000 new.

The Skoda Roomster

This car is a little smaller and sportier than the Nissan mentioned above, but this Skoda car is as efficient and sturdy as its manufacturer suggests. It has an adjustable steering wheel and an upright driving position; although interior room especially in the back seat is a little bit tight, it has a good sized boot and gets about 39 miles per gallon. Electric front windows and CD are standard for the price, £13,010 for new cars.

There are many other great cars for you, if you often do long journeys. Ask your trusted car dealer for his advice and help.
